Helene Schjerfbeck: Ung flicka under björkar, 1891. Villa Gyllenberg.
This special exhibition presents Helene´s kindred spirits Amélie Lundahl, Venny Soldan-Brofeldt, Ada Thilén, Helena Westermarck, and Maria Wiik. These female artists became known to Helene during her time in Paris, and she felt a strong connection to them. These artists continued to actively correspond with Helene and they became part of her daily life. Together they established a sisterhood, and the aim of the exhibition is to explore the artistic elements of this friendship.
The 150th anniversary of Helene Schjerfbeck´s birth is celebrated with exhibitions both in Finland and abroad. As Schjerfbeck lived for a significant time of her life in Ekenäs, the Provincial museum of Western Nyland has planned a permanent exhibition at the EKTA museum centre, celebrating her life and work. Helene Schjerfbeck´s life and art opens on 27.4.2012. A sister exhibition, Helene Schjerfbeck´s kindred spirits: Amélie Lundahl, Venny Soldan-Brofeldt, Ada Thilén, Helena Westermarck, Maria Wiik runs concurrently from 27.4-14.10.2012.
