Kyllikki Haavisto: Vital and Well Fed Intelligence, 98 x 98 cm, watercolor on velvet, 2010
Global and ecological in relation to subjective existence is the thematic foundation for "Found - Founded - Disappeared". Kyllikki Haavisto employes various and surprising techniques in her paintings - watercolour on velvet as an example.
"Continents, lands, cities and celestial bodies have been discovered. They have been taken, owned and named. Farms and mines have been founded, factories and hanging gardens built. The modern world is no wiser - corporations, countries, flora, fauna and work is still lost or transformed. The individualistic life-style of consumption and speed that is accompanied with a large amount of human relationships ushers in a sense of speedier familiarization but also a hastened abandonment. I'm not sure if we are truly "born as individuals and perish as copies". However, even though money is, at least for myself, the one thing that does perish, my encounters permit me to create artworks that deal with the concept of loss in relation to individuality and human relationships."
