Pori Art Museum

Eteläranta,
28100 Pori

The Pori museum, known for its bold and adventurous exhibits, showcases modern contemporary art from Finland and abroad.

Pori Art Museum's fall 2025 exhibitions will continue until March 1. The joint exhibition Sokeriovet (Sugar Doors) by four Finnish contemporary artists, Essi Kausalainen, Olli Keränen, Mikko Kuorinki and Maija Luutonen, fills the museum's Hall. In the Wing, visitors can experience three works from the Night Soil trilogy by Berlin-based contemporary artist Melanie Bonajo in expanded forms as installations.

The Pori Art Museum is based on the life's work of Professor Maire Gullichsen (1907–1990) and the collection of the art foundation that bears her name. The collection now has its own permanent exhibition space in the wing of the art museum.

The Pori Art Museum's new exhibitions in 2026 will weave together temporal layers from the history of contemporary art to the different phases of modernism.
In spring, the Contra Conservatio group exhibition opening in the Hall of the art museum will focus on the remains of the ceiling fresco painted by Akseli Gallen-Kallela for the Juselius Mausoleum, which were successfully saved from the fire that destroyed the building in 1931. In addition to Gallen-Kallela, the other artists featured in the exhibition are Cyprien Gaillard, Markus Luiro, Iida Nikitin, Kosti S. Ruohomaa, and Veronica Ryan.

At the same time, another group exhibition, De Se Attitude, will be on display in the temporary exhibition spaces of the Art Museum's Wing. The production of knowledge as a feminist artistic process is the central theme of the exhibition. The exhibition Maire Gullichsen and the Turning Points of Modernism will continue throughout the spring and summer with a partially redesigned display.

The exhibition focuses on the early stages of Professor Maire Gullichsen's art collection and presents Finnish modernism from the early 20th century.

In the fall of 2026, the Pori Art Museum will host a major exhibition by British-Kenyan (Maasai Kikuyu) artist Grace Ndiritu, which will be divided between the museum's Hall and all of the Wing's exhibition spaces.

The version to be built at the Pori Art Museum will include not only Ndiritu's own works of art, but also a selection of works from the museum's collection representing postmodern stylistic trends, resembling a kind of indoor sculpture park. In addition, Ndiritu is putting together a new hanging from The Collection of Maire Gullichsen Art Foundation, which is central to the Pori Art Museum.
