VB photographic center

Located in Kuopio, the VB Photographic Centre offers high-quality photography exhibitions throughout the year. Its diverse and topical programme, accompanied by a range of events, spans photographic art, documentary photography and the history of photography. The centre is particularly well known for its summer exhibitions showcasing the work of internationally acclaimed photographers.

Housed in an old wooden building in the heart of the city, the centre is an inviting place to pause and immerse yourself in photography and photographic art. The atmospheric, history-filled rooms are best enjoyed at a leisurely pace, giving yourself time to look around and take it all in. The shop offers photographic books and other items to take home, while the library of photobooks invites visitors to browse. In summer, a visit can also be combined with the idyllic garden, café and Barso’s cellar.

The VB Photographic Centre opened in 1987 as Finland’s first regional photographic centre, although in a sense its roots reach further back. From 1894 to 1927, the same building housed a studio bearing the name of photographer Victor Barsokevitsch (1863-1933). The extensive collection of photographs that has survived from the studio is unique in Finland. Today, the same historic building has entered a new chapter as a stage for photography.
