Seam – Fashion in Art, Art in Fashion

What happens when future designers use works of art as the basis for their designs? In the exhibition, the Savonia UAS design students' physical and digital clothes, patterns, and jewellery engage in a dialogue with the art museum's collections. The exhibition displays seamlessly new acquisitions as well as older familiar works.

Seam - Fashion in Art, Art in Fashion - is a tour de force of Savonia design students, which unveils the world of contemporary fashion and design and its processes. The designers were inspired by works from Kuopio Art Museum's collections and the museum's architecture. Throughout the ages, visual art has been inspired by attire, fashion and its phenomena - and vice versa. Whether carefully considered or unthoughtful, clothing is part of a constantly evolving self-expression and statement. Clothing is the visual voice of identity.
