Creative Destruction

Johan Eichhorn’s Creative Destruction shifts human interventions in nature into the human living environment. Instead of forest roads cutting through woodlands, drainage drying out wetlands, and dams altering waterways, these elements appear in people’s homes and other everyday spaces.

In the staged photographs, familiar environments become strange. At the same time, they make visible the ways we reshape nature – changes that have gradually become an almost unnoticed part of our daily lives.

The exhibition does not aim to provide answers, but invites viewers to reflect on why we accept in nature things we would never accept in our own living environment.

Creative Destruction is on view at the Finnish Museum of Natural History’s PopUp balcony from 1 September 2026 to 10 January 2027.

Johan Eichhorn is a Finnish-German photographer and theatre director. His work has been exhibited in museums, galleries, and theatres in Finland and internationally. In his photographic art, he examines societal phenomena through staged and narrative imagery.
