Vekaravintti

Turkansaari Open-Air Museum, Oulu

  • 1.1.2020–

At Vekaravintti (Fin. Children's attic), you can learn about the lives of children in the 1940s and 1950s.

Vekaravintti is a functional exhibition space for children. The facility is located in the attic of the shed in the Ylikärppä House’s yard. Some might remember the old children’s play area in the same location – now that area has been extended and totally renovated.

At Vekaravintti, you may explore the everyday life of children in the 1940s and 1950s. The facility has been designed especially for children, but adults are also welcome to come and learn about the life of children in the post-war period. The children of the actual 1940s and 1950s are especially welcome.

The Finnish spitz Piki can be seen at Vekaravintti. Piki will give you tips for different plays, offer active mathematical brain teasers, and guide children to think about the lives of children in the 40s and 50s in comparison to modern times. Our furry friend Piki might also be found at children’s events. Woof woof!
