Photofuss: Contact

The Finnish Museum of Photography, Helsinki

  • 29.5.2026–6.9.2026

The exhibition by Photofuss, the museum’s youth group, explores connections to other people and the environment.

Each of us has our own place in this world, yet we are in constant interaction with our surroundings. We are fragments within continuums, participants in communication, surrounded by others and the wider world.

Photofuss' exhibition examines connections on different levels: what kinds of interactions do we have with the world around us and with other people? What kind of connection do we have with nature, and what happens when it begins to reclaim the space it has lost? In a time when connections can simultaneously be both extensive and fragile, the significance of contact is highlighted.

The works in the exhibition explore the interaction between the artist and the viewer, the relationship between humans and nature, and our own place as part of a global society. Points of contact between distance and closeness, the individual and the community, and humans and the rest of the world are brought to the fore.

In spring 2026, Photofuss launched a mentoring programme aimed at supporting the development of its members' photographic expression. Professionals in the field of photography guided participants in group exhibition and zine projects, writing, darkroom work, and deepening their own artistic practice. The mentors were Akseli Valmunen, Katri Lassila, Toivo Heinimäki, Hanna Weselius and Elina Brotherus.

Photofuss' mentoring programme and exhibition have been supported by Finnfoto.

Exhibiting artists: Emiliano Espinosa, Villa Eweis, Elena Ilia, Hide Ishibashi, Seela Joensuu, Leevi Kaukonen, Silja Lampisjärvi, Pyry Pietikäinen, Vilppu Rantanen, Jasmin Rossi, Kajsa Santonen, Sole Tikkanen, and Karun Verma.

During the 2025–2026 term, the Photofuss group is coordinated by one of its members, photographic artist Karun Verma.

Photofuss is the youth group of the Finnish Museum of Photography, offering an opportunity to experience and create phenomena in photographic culture through collective work. Applications to the group are open every autumn.
