Mine Water Management
Outokumpu Mining Museum, Outokumpu
- 17.6.2026–31.12.2026
The exhibition explores the water cycle at different mines, how water is treated, as well as what the law and the environmental permit requires of water.
5 mines present their water cycle in the exhibition. Finncobalt presents their planned water cycle, once they get out of the environmental permit stage. Yara Siilinjärvi Mine, Kemi Mine, and Kittilä Mine share their water cycle and their water treatment systems. Boliden shares how they did the closure of the Kylylahti Mine, and what they did to ensure that no environmentally hazardous materials end up in the water after closure.
On top of this we learn how Mining-Influenced Water is formed, how education about water is done and how water is researched in North Savo, as well as examples of state of the art measurement devices developed at the University of Oulu's measurement technique unit at the university centre in Kajaani.
We can also learn about the environmental permit and about the text of the law regarding water. Finally we can aquaint ourselves with the key environmentally hazardous substances in mine water.
