The Animals of my Life

Nature journalist and artist Minna Pyykkö captures special moments from nature in her paintings. The Animals of My Life exhibition consists of watercolors that serve as a reminder of how humans have always observed and documented the phenomena of nature.

The Natural History Museum is a very familiar place for Pyykkö: she has spent a great deal of time in the building both as a student and as a journalist.

– As a biology student, I attended lectures and dissertation defenses here on topics ranging from midges to seals, and bird species identification. Later, as a nature journalist, I visited countless times to create programs about birds, insects, mammals, and fish, among other subjects. Many scientists whose work I admire and who have helped me delve deeper into the wonders of Finnish nature have also worked here. All of this has undoubtedly influenced my paintings.

The Animals of My Life is on display at the Natural History Museum café from April 14 to June 14, 2026.
